The Perfect Finish for Your Epoxy Resin Table: A Guide by Rustic Resin & Wood

Hey there, epoxy enthusiasts! If you are one of my many customers who have taken to creating their own rustic epoxy and wood masterpieces, I know you’ve poured your heart (and resin) into creating that stunning epoxy resin table, and now you’re faced with the crucial decision of choosing the perfect finish. Fear not, because at Rustic Resin & Wood, I’ve got your back! Today, let’s discuss what is the best finish for epoxy resin tables, and can we find one that won’t play host to stubborn dirt like an oil finish?

The Resin Conundrum

Before we unwrap the mystery of the ideal finish, let’s briefly talk about epoxy resin itself. This magical substance, while creating glossy, mesmerizing surfaces, can be a bit of a diva when it comes to UV rays. Left unprotected, it might yellow over time. That’s where the perfect finish swoops in to save the day! Yes, I know there are different types of epoxies that claim to be “UV resistant” but, that my friends is a discussion for another day.

Polyurethane: The Unsung Hero

This my friends, I must admit, is one of my favorites. If you’re searching for a finish that not only seals the deal but also repels dirt like a pro, look no further than polyurethane. This hard and durable finish forms a protective layer over your resin masterpiece, shielding it from the harsh elements of daily life. Plus, it’s super easy to clean – just a gentle wipe and your table will be gleaming once again!

Oil Finishes: A Double-Edged Sword

While oil finishes have their charm, they might not be the best choice if you’re aiming for a dirt-resistant surface. Sure, they bring out the natural beauty of wood and add a warm touch, but they tend to soak up dirt like a sponge at a water park. Cleaning becomes a chore, and nobody wants that hassle, right? Again, I must say, because someone will say, there are oil finishes that dry hard and not tacky… but, again, that can be a post all in its own as there are so many options. (Stay tuned for that discussion!)

Varnish: The Glossy Guardian

For those who crave the glossy sheen that rivals a magazine cover, varnish is a top-notch option. It provides a crystal-clear finish that not only enhances the visual appeal of your epoxy resin table but also acts as a barrier against dirt and grime. Easy to apply and long-lasting – what’s not to love?

The Winning Combo: Polyurethane Varnish

If you’re feeling adventurous and want the best of both worlds, consider a polyurethane varnish. This dynamic duo combines the durability of polyurethane with the glossy charm of varnish, creating a finish that’s not only resilient but also a visual feast for the eyes.

Truth Be Told: The Choice is Yours

In the end, the best finish for your epoxy resin table boils down to personal preference and the level of protection you desire. If you’re on Team “Dirt-Repellent,” polyurethane and varnish are your loyal companions. Say goodbye to stubborn dirt and hello to a dazzling, low-maintenance masterpiece!
