Eastern Red Cedar is an incredibly versatile evergreen tree that provides excellent shade, and privacy and serves as a buffer planting. With a lifespan extending over many years, it can reach an impressive height of approximately 30 feet. This adaptable tree thrives in a variety of soil conditions, whether dry or moist and performs exceptionally well in both full sun and light shade. Its unique salt tolerance makes it particularly suitable for coastal areas.
At Rustic Resin & Wood, I take pride in sourcing the finest quality cedar and juniper wood. Our suppliers are local individuals who have had trees die or needed to clear land for new projects. This means that the wood we acquire has a unique story, having been a part of the local landscape for years. Some of the wood we obtain has already begun the natural spalting process, adding to its character and appeal. Spalted Cedar. This is an unfinished (rough live edge spalted cedar slab) before the magic begins. Although this slab has been cut, it still needs to be planned, the rot (spalting) removed, and sanded before it ready for any type of finish.

This is just one of many finished Cedar pieces. There are many types of finish, varnish, polyurethane, walrus oil, and epoxy to name just a few. I use epoxy to add brilliant colors that enhance the natural beauty of the Cedar.
I prefer Eye Candy pigments, to color my epoxy/resin. Pigments come in powders and liquid form, I prefer the powder, just my personal choice. Eye Candy pigments come in about every color in the spectrum, so finding one that will compliment your home decor should never be a problem!
Some of my pieces are finished with polyurathane as a top coat, others have a top- coat of epoxy. It depends on the customer, do they want a glossy, matte or flat finish
Another wood often mistaken for Cedar is Juniper Wood, although they are not identical. These two woods share remarkable grain patterns and vibrant colors. However, Juniper wood surpasses expectations with its natural insecticidal properties and exceptional resistance to rot. It even rivals the performance of pressure-treated wood, without any harmful chemicals, and outlasts both redwood and cedar. Additionally, Juniper wood is cost-comparative with other popular options. Its longevity and impressive attributes truly make it a standout choice.
